Inner frontier

“There is an inner frontier, a split between the conscious and the unconscious mind, between nature and history. It breaks through each individual, weaving a net that both captures and delivers, in and from existence, the bodies and the minds. Things are brought together, torn apart: groups of names and people are assembled, new metaphors take shape as annexed territories break up, ideas of freedom get mixed up with the perversity of power. As there is no symbol without fracture, no whole without disjointed parts, there is nothing outside the inner frontier: the split is the outside itself, internalized, open. A meeting place. A surface, an eye, a film. Flat as utopias, deep as the skin, thus photography: as conjuration, as call, mixture of love affair and aspiration to anarchy, disclosing the enclosed, for and against meaning”
