Greetings from Yugoslavia @ Echoes of Silence

Greetings from Yugoslavia was presented at Rotterdam Photo 2026 as part of Echoes of Silence, in a site-specific installation within a 20-foot container—one of forty forming the festival’s framework. In line with the exhibition’s premise, the work does not treat the image as a recording device, but foregrounds introspective, subjective, and visually layered perspectives on conflict.

The installation brings together postcards, photographic works, and video sequences in a spatial arrangement that shifts between image, text, and moving image.

Originating from regions marked by the aftermath of Yugoslavia’s dissolution, the works trace subtle imprints of change—atmospheres, residual structures, and quiet adjustments—through which history settles into everyday space and perception.

Greetings from Yugoslavia—with a significant share of the postcards drawn from [un]familiar[ities]—extends into new stories and works from the ongoing project, including its development within Utopias of Collectivity (2025). The recurring image of the palm tree, shown in states of decay and reuse, reflects broader shifts in symbolism and value, alongside other fragments that have emerged along the way.

Together, these elements trace social, cultural, and historical structures in transit, where value systems continuously shift and dissolve.
