The Banana Region of the Western Balkan explores metaphorical parallels between the banana plant and the Western Balkan region. From monoculture genetics and the political history of “banana republics” to the violence of the banana massacres, the work traces connections between botanical, economic, and geopolitical structures. It also reflects on the few missing climatic degrees that prevent banana cultivation in the region—an absence that mirrors the fragile conditions shaping its development.
